Meet Jenn Levin

Expert Sleep Hypnotherapist in Los Angeles

I’m Jenn Levin, a Certified Hypnotherapist trained at HMI College of Hypnotherapy with over 7 years of experience helping people overcome insomnia and finally experience deep, restorative rest. Many of my clients come to me searching for “hypnosis for insomnia near me”—and they discover that it is possible to retrain your brain to help you to sleep at night!

I’ve worked with clients who, after nearly a decade of sleepless nights, are now enjoying a full 8 hours of sleep. Others who once depended on medication are today sleeping through the night drug free! My approach combines personalized hypnotic suggestions, custom session audio recordings, and self-hypnosis techniques you can use on your own.

And if you’ve ever worried that hypnosis means losing mind control, let me reassure you: it’s the exact opposite. I don’t take away your control—if anything, I help you gain greater control over your mind so you can calm racing thoughts, reduce anxiety, and finally get the sleep you deserve.

Here’s what one client had to say:

“I was very nervous coming into my first session ... It was without a doubt the most relaxing and pleasant experience of my life. After 1 session my sleep has improved to the point where I can fall asleep quickly and easily and can sleep through the night soundly without waking up 3-4 times in the middle of the night. I couldn’t recommend anyone more highly than Jenn for anything you want to improve in your life with hypnotherapy.”

My Approach to Insomnia Hypnotherapy

When clients come to me for help with insomnia, my first priority is to look for the root cause. If you’ve already seen a medical doctor and there’s no clear explanation for your sleep disturbances, it’s often a sign that something mental or emotional may be keeping you awake at night. Sometimes this is tied to earlier memories or even adverse events that have shaped the way your mind responds to bedtime. That’s where hypnotherapy can make a difference.

During your first session, we’ll spend about 45 minutes exploring your history, thought patterns, and beliefs around sleep. Very often, insomnia is fueled by subconscious expectations—such as going to bed each night already anticipating that you’ll “sleep horribly.” Together, we’ll begin to challenge those patterns and reframe them into beliefs that support quality sleep, like: “I can trust that my body knows how to sleep.”

To help you make this shift, I combine Imagery, guided self-hypnosis, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Dream Therapy and Kappasinian Hypnosis. I test your suggestibility to understand how you naturally process information, so I can deliver hypnotic suggestions in the way your subconscious mind learns best. This minimizes resistance and increases your chances of lasting results—an approach supported by findings in clinical and experimental hypnosis research.

For example, I might guide you through a visualization of going to your "happy place" or on a wonderful vacation where your "to do list" has floated away and you have plenty of space to rest and restore your energy. This imagery helps your subconscious learn how to release anxiety around sleep, so you can begin to sleep deeper and wake feeling refreshed.

How to get started

Step 1: Schedule a Free Consultation

sleep hypnotherapist

The first step is to schedule a complimentary consultation. This is a conversation where you can share your sleep problems and ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy. It also gives me a chance to learn more about your unique situation so I can recommend how many sessions might be best for you.

Step 2: Create a Personalized Plan

If we decide to move forward, I’ll put together a plan tailored to your needs. For many clients, I recommend starting with a six-session package. This allows us to work through the layers of anxiety, habits, and subconscious beliefs that may be interfering with your rest—and it also saves you money in the long run. You’ll also see how hypnosis compared to other methods offers a gentle, non-invasive way to retrain your mind for better sleep.

Step 3: Begin Your Sessions

Once your plan is set, we’ll begin your sessions either online or in person at my studio in Los Angeles. Each session includes custom recordings you can listen to in-between our sessions to reinforce trust in your body and its ability to sleep naturally. Many clients notice improvements quickly, and we’ll continue to refine the process so you can achieve the better sleep you’ve been desperate for.

Common reasons why people start sleep hypnosis

Racing Thoughts at Night

Many people with sleep disorders find that their minds won’t “switch off” when it’s time for bed. Stress, worry, or unresolved thoughts can create sleep disturbances, making it hard to drift into rest. Sleep hypnosis helps quiet mental chatter and promote a calmer state of mind at night.

Breaking the Cycle of Insomnia

For those struggling with chronic insomnia, sleepless nights can become a frustrating cycle that feels impossible to escape. Hypnotherapy offers a way to reset these patterns, teaching the mind to associate bedtime with relaxation instead of anxiety. This can restore healthy sleep habits over time.

Reducing Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are leading causes of poor sleep, and for some, these issues are linked with post traumatic stress disorders that heighten nighttime tension. Hypnosis supports deep relaxation, taking the nervous system out of fight/flight and into the parasympathetic nervous system letting the body know it is safe to rest. We also may need to clear out some deep mental blocks that could be getting in the way of your ability to sleep.

Improving Sleep Quality

It’s not just about falling asleep quickly—it’s about staying asleep and waking up feeling great! Sleep hypnosis can reduce night wakings, strengthen sleep cycles, and improve overall rest. Many people seek this approach because they don’t want to rely on clinical sleep medicine for the rest of their lives.

When Another Provider Might Be a Better Fit for Your Needs

Medical Treatment or Prescription Support

I’m not a doctor and cannot prescribe sleep medications. If you need medical evaluation, a sleep study, or prescription treatment, a physician specializing in clinical sleep medicine will be a better fit. You can find providers through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Addressing an Underlying Health Condition

Sometimes, sleep struggles are connected to an underlying health condition such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, or thyroid issues. In these cases, it’s important to work with your primary care physician or a sleep specialist to properly diagnose and treat the root cause. If there is any possibility of a medical origin, I do require a referral from your doctor before beginning hypnosis. This way, you can feel confident that you’re receiving the best care possible, as we work together in conjunction with your medical team to support both your mind and body.

Exploring Other Evidence-Based Therapies

For some individuals, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) may be recommended as the first-line treatment for insomnia. CBT helps change thought patterns and behaviors that interfere with sleep. If this resonates with you, consider resources from the American Psychological Association to find a licensed mental health professional.

FAQs about hypnosis for insomnia

  • From my perspective as a certified hypnotherapist, hypnosis for sleep really is a promising treatment. Many of my clients come to me after trying other approaches, and it’s encouraging to see research starting to confirm what I witness in practice: clinical hypnosis can help calm the mind, ease rumination at night, and support healthier, more restorative sleep.

Recent reviews looking at hypnosis intervention effects on sleep have found that about half of the studies showed meaningful improvements in sleep outcomes—things like falling asleep faster, waking less during the night, and feeling more refreshed in the morning. Even better, hypnosis carries a very low risk of side effects, especially compared with medications often used for treating insomnia.

That said, science is still catching up. Many of the existing studies are small, with limited focus on people who specifically struggle with sleep disorders. While early results are encouraging, more high-quality research is needed to confirm just how effective hypnosis can be for insomnia.

If you’d like to explore the research for yourself, here are two good starting points: OHSU Review (2018) and Systematic Review of Hypnotherapy for Sleep (2023).

  • One of the most common questions I hear is, “How many sessions will it take to fix my sleep?” The truth is, it depends. Some people notice improvements in their sleep schedule or feel themselves deepening sleep after just a session or two. For others, there may be multiple layers—like trauma, deep rooted anxiety, or lifestyle factors—that have been disrupting their sleep hygiene for years.

In general, I recommend new clients start with a 6-session package. This gives us time to work through different aspects of insomnia, and it will also save you money in the long run. You may see results sooner, and if that’s the case, we can use any extra sessions to focus on other goals. The sessions never expire, so you’ll always have them available.

I also make a recording of each session, and clients who listen regularly often see their deep sleep improve much faster. Of course, if an underlying health condition is contributing to your insomnia, that’s something that hypnosis alone can’t treat—but we can still make powerful progress with habits, relaxation, and mindset.

If you schedule a consultation, I may be able to give you a better idea of how many sessions you’ll need depending on your unique situation.

  • This may be a bit of a trick question. After all the goal is to sleep right?! But during your actual hypnosis I want you to stay awake. That's because the sweet spot for hypnosis to work is the "twilight state" in between awake and asleep. It is in this slower brain wave where "the magic" happens. We want your conscious brain to be on board and aligned with what is being suggested hypnotically. Being awake enough to hear these hypnotic suggestions helps shift patterns and creates lasting change.

That said, it’s very common for people with insomnia to eventually fall asleep when listening to their recordings at night because you are exhausted. If you find that your recordings help you fall asleep at night then you can absolutely use your hypnosis recordings to help you go to sleep at night. After all, improving sleep is exactly why you turned to hypnotherapy in the first place.

So while I encourage you to remain in that dreamy, receptive state during sessions, if your recordings later help you sleep at home, then we’ve achieved the goal!
